Gadsden announces $1.1 million Hoke Street paving project
The City of Gadsden has announced a $1.1 million project to pave nearly a mile of Hoke Street in East Gadsden. The construction will span from Elmwood Avenue at the railroad tracks to Meighan Boulevard.
In addition to applying a new surface, crews will repair the underlying road bed, as well as curbs and gutters along the project area. Mayor Craig Ford noted the importance of the project, stating that the area has long been in poor condition.
City officials expect work to begin before the end of November. This initiative follows previous improvements made to the eastern stretch of Hoke Street in 2023. Furthermore, a separate project involving traffic-signal modifications at the intersection of Hoke Street and East Broad Street is currently in the final planning stages.
