Gaffney student shot and killed near school bus stop

A 17-year-old Gaffney High School student, identified as Jomiltron Sentell Fair, was shot and killed Wednesday morning near a school bus stop in Gaffney, South Carolina.

The incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. near West Wallace Avenue as Fair was walking from his apartment toward a bus stop. According to investigators, a male suspect approached Fair, a brief altercation ensued, and the victim was shot. Surveillance footage from the bus shows the shooter fleeing in a vehicle driven by another individual. Approximately 15 students were inside the school bus and witnessed the shooting.

Gaffney Police Chief Gerald Knight stated that the investigation is active and involves collaboration with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, and federal partners. While officers attempted life-saving measures, Fair died at the scene. No arrests have been made, and authorities have not yet released descriptions of the suspects.

In response to the violence, school administrators have implemented safety procedures, and additional law enforcement patrols have been deployed to local schools. Counselors have also been made available to support students and staff.
