Gagauzia Central Electoral Commission established for November elections
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has established the Gagauzia Central Electoral Commission (CECG) to organize the upcoming elections for the Governor (Bashkan) and the People's Assembly, scheduled for November 15. The CECG will consist of 15 members, which exceeds the standard maximum of 11 members typically permitted by the electoral code. Svetlana Colesnic has been appointed as the interim president of the council.
The commission has approved regulations regarding the nomination and registration of candidates from political parties, electoral blocs, independent candidates, and initiative groups. The CECG is tasked with establishing electoral constituencies and local voting sections throughout the autumn.
Electoral authorities have expressed confidence in their ability to prevent fraud during the process. However, analysts suggest that Ilan Shor may attempt to maintain influence in the region. Candidates for office will undergo several verification processes, including requirements regarding Romanian language proficiency.
