Gagauzia interim governor requests delay of elections

Ilia Uzun, the interim governor of Gagauzia, has requested that the People's Assembly of Comrat postpone the organization of elections for the governor position. Uzun is seeking a delay until the Supreme Court of Justice issues a ruling in the case involving Evghenia Guțul.

Guțul was previously sentenced to seven years in prison for complicity in the illegal financing of the former 'Șor' party. Uzun has criticized the sentence as being “purely political,” arguing that the criminal prosecution is linked to the results of the 2023 governor elections and that the accusations lack sufficient evidence.
