Gagauzia opens candidate registration for People’s Assembly elections
Candidate registration has officially opened for the Gagauzia People’s Assembly elections. Starting September 28, 2026, individuals seeking seats in the assembly can submit their documentation to electoral councils in Comrat, Ceadîr-Lunga, and Vulcănești.
For the first time, the elections for the People’s Assembly will be held simultaneously with the election for the Governor (Bashkan) of Gagauzia, both scheduled for November 15, 2026. Political party nominees must submit their files in person, including biographical information, asset declarations, and proof of compliance with Moldova’s Electoral Code. Independent candidates are required to provide additional signature lists to verify their support.
Several politicians have already signaled their intent to run for the position of Bashkan. Among the independent candidates is former Prosecutor General and former MP Alexandr Stoianoglo, who reportedly submitted documents on September 23 to register an initiative.
