Gaggiolo border officials seize undeclared luxury goods

Customs officials at the Gaggiolo border crossing in the province of Varese discovered undeclared luxury items in a vehicle traveling from Switzerland to Italy. During a routine inspection, the Guardia di Finanza and the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli found a high-end handbag and a scarf in the car's trunk.

The combined value of the luxury goods exceeded 23,000 euros. Although the foreign driver initially claimed she had nothing to declare, the subsequent search revealed the items, leading to an administrative violation for smuggling under current customs regulations.

The traveler opted to settle the matter immediately through a voluntary regularization process, paying 7,297.86 euros to cover the required fines, customs duties, and VAT.
