Gaiety-Galaxy cinema in Mumbai temporarily shuts down

The iconic Gaiety-Galaxy cinema complex in Bandra, Mumbai, has temporarily suspended all movie screenings. The shutdown follows a notice from the Bandra Police Station stating that the theatre failed to renew its operating licence.

While police investigations indicate the closure is due to the expired licence, theatre owner Manoj Desai has offered a different explanation, attributing the halt to technical issues involving damaged and burned cables that require replacement.

Reports also indicate that the theatre was recently the site of protests by groups demanding more screening space for the film ‘Hanuman Ansh’, during which posters for the film ‘Mirzapur’ were allegedly torn. The Mumbai Police have registered a case against approximately 10 to 12 protesters in connection with these incidents.
