GAIL and RCF sign MoU for 1.27 MMTPA urea plant in Vidarbha
State‑run GAIL (India) Ltd and Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop a gas‑based fertilizer plant in Vidarbha, Maharashtra. The proposed facility will produce 1.27 million tonnes of urea per year and will be situated along GAIL’s Mumbai‑Nagpur‑Jharsuguda natural gas pipeline, to be built through a Special Purpose Vehicle.
The partnership aims to boost domestic fertilizer output, reduce India’s reliance on imports and promote industrial development in the Vidarbha region. GAIL Chairman and Managing Director Deepak Gupta said the project aligns with the company’s strategy of creating long‑term value through natural‑gas utilisation and supports national energy‑security goals. RCF Chairman and Managing Director S. Shivakumar called the collaboration a step toward meeting growing fertilizer demand and advancing the government’s National Investment Policy for Urea‑2026 and Atmanirbhar Bharat objectives.
