Gail Lerner removed as showrunner of NBC sitcom Newlyweds

Gail Lerner, co-creator and showrunner of the upcoming NBC sitcom ‘Newlyweds’, has been removed from the series just two weeks before its scheduled premiere on October 23. Lerner announced her departure via Instagram, stating that the reason provided for her dismissal was ‘creative differences’.

Despite the sudden exit, Lerner expressed pride in the project she developed alongside Jamie Lee Curtis. She noted that the first six episodes were produced under her leadership and praised the cast and crew. The series stars Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, with appearances by Jamie Lee Curtis, and follows a late-in-life romance between a free-spirited woman and a professor.

With production for the eighth episode of the 13-episode order reportedly underway, NBC and Universal Television are expected to seek a new showrunner during the upcoming scheduled production break.
