Gaiman farm worker reports eight months of servitude and threats
A 44-year-old rural worker from La Rioja has filed a judicial complaint after allegedly spending eight months working and living in extreme conditions at a farm in Gaiman, Chubut. The victim claims he traveled to the region following a job offer to serve as a caretaker, but subsequently received neither a salary nor food in exchange for his labor.
Legal representative Facundo Bonavitta reported that the worker was living in a chicken coop lacking heating, basic services, and proper shelter, noting the presence of rats and water leaks. The complaint includes allegations of reduction to servitude, aggravated threats, and physical injuries. The worker reportedly faced death threats involving a knife, with warnings that he would be killed and burned if he did not leave the premises by a specific deadline.
The investigation will address the worker's vulnerability, as he is reportedly illiterate, and the alleged criminal history of the accused, who is said to be armed.
