Gainesville Regional Airport K-9 Beamer retires after eight years

Beamer, an explosives-detection K-9 at Gainesville Regional Airport, has retired after eight and a half years of service. A yellow Labrador Retriever originally from Colombia, Beamer graduated from training in 2018 and served alongside handler Jason Berger.

Named after Todd Beamer, a passenger on United Flight 93 who was a key figure in the resistance against hijackers during the September 11 attacks, the dog wore a working vest featuring the phrase ‘Let’s roll’. Her retirement ceremony coincided with the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

During the ceremony, U.S. Representative Kat Cammack presented Beamer with a congressional challenge coin and a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol. Beyond her security duties, Beamer served as an airport ambassador, participating in community demonstrations and school visits.
