Gakken releases financial strategy book for Japan's employment ice age generation
A new book titled ‘My Money Strategy for the Employment Ice Age Generation: How I Saved 70 Million Yen with a Take-Home Pay of 250,000 Yen Even with a Wife and Children’ has been released by Gakken. Written by Nanashi, an investor born in 1976, the book addresses the financial anxieties of the ‘employment ice age generation’—those who entered the workforce during Japan's post-bubble economic downturn.
Through personal anecdotes, the author highlights a stark generational gap. In one instance, the author noted that despite working as a salesperson for a foreign manufacturer, his take-home pay was lower than that of his 70-year-old father, who worked part-time in self-employment. This disparity underscores the economic challenges faced by those who experienced job insecurity, low wages, and restructuring.
The book offers practical, conservative financial strategies for individuals in their 40s and 50s to prepare for retirement. Rather than seeking rapid wealth, it emphasizes using national systems like NISA and pension adjustments to build a ‘personal pension.’ The author provides simulations for reaching targets such as 30 million or 20 million yen to supplement public pensions and ensure stability through age 100.
