Galați hypermarket employee dies following dispute with managers
A 58-year-old woman has died at a Selgros hypermarket in Galați, Romania, following a confrontation with her superiors. The victim, who suffered from known cardiac issues, reportedly collapsed after a tense, hour-long discussion in the director's office.
The family alleges that the woman had been subjected to continuous verbal and emotional abuse for the past two months. On the day of the incident, she was reportedly pressured to perform tasks outside her job description, specifically moving from the checkout area to a store aisle, despite having previously informed management of her inability to perform strenuous physical labor due to her health.
Family members have raised serious concerns regarding the emergency response, claiming that the 112 emergency number was not called immediately. They allege that an employee first attempted to contact the victim's sister in another city and that there was a suggestion to transport the woman home by car rather than calling for an ambulance.
Authorities, including the Police and the Territorial Labor Inspectorate (ITM), have launched parallel investigations. The police are examining the circumstances to determine if the death constitutes manslaughter through negligence, while the ITM is investigating whether the incident qualifies as a workplace accident.
