Galasur workers protest following 19 dismissals in Olavarría

Workers at the Galasur plant in Sierra Chica, Olavarría, have launched a protest following the dismissal of 19 employees. The demonstration, supported by the mining union AOMA, included an assembly and the burning of tires at the facility entrance. Of the dismissed staff, 17 are members of AOMA and two belong to the Centro Empleados de Comercio.

AOMA Secretary General Alejandro Santillán stated that the company is attempting to pay only half of the required severance under Article 247 of the Labor Contract Law. The company has attributed the layoffs to a decline in public works over the last three years and claims that state-owned companies owe more than $1.8 billion.

Union leadership has criticized the company for failing to engage in meaningful dialogue, noting that a recent meeting at the Ministry of Labor was unsuccessful because the company's representative lacked decision-making authority. Workers have resolved to remain outside the plant to demand a negotiation table and full indemnification.
