Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe struggle despite massive transfer spending

Turkish football giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe have faced significant disappointment in the Champions League despite massive summer investments. Together, the two clubs spent approximately 165 million Euros (9 billion TL) on transfers, yet have struggled to achieve competitive results.

Galatasaray invested 78 million Euros in transfers, including Rafael Leao for 38 million Euros, while maintaining a core featuring stars like Osimhen and Torreira. However, the team suffered heavy defeats, including a 3-1 loss to Sporting and a 4-1 loss to Barcelona, leaving them near the bottom of the standings with zero points.

Fenerbahçe spent 87 million Euros on squad updates, notably allocating 54 million Euros to the duo of Greenwood and Vedat Muriqi. Their campaign has been marked by defensive struggles, including a 6-0 loss to Aston Villa. Internal issues have also surfaced, including player availability concerns regarding Asensio and N'Golo Kanté following recent matches.
