Galatasaray pushes for NBA Europe spot and speeds up Aslantepe complex build

Mecit Mert Çetinkaya, Galatasaray’s board member in charge of basketball, told reporters the club is a leading candidate to join the NBA Europe competition slated to start next season. He said Galatasaray aims to become the first Turkish team in the tournament, pending finalisation of a business plan, the creation of a dedicated basketball company and the acquisition of shares from NBA partners.

Çetinkaya also highlighted the club’s Aslantepe sports complex project, describing it as a major investment that will include a new basketball arena and facilities for volleyball, athletics, water polo, swimming and other amateur sports. Construction has begun, with the basketball hall expected to be completed first, and the overall development projected to take about three years. The club has retained Italian coach Gianmarco Pozzecco to lead the men’s team as part of its broader push for competitive success.
