Galatina Basilica to host nighttime sacred art tours

The “Notturno Sacro” cultural initiative will launch in Galatina on September 23 at the Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria. To mark the autumn equinox, the Basilica will open for exclusive guided nighttime tours, using only soft electric torchlight to illuminate its 14th-century frescoes. This lighting method aims to replicate the visual experience of historical worshippers.

The program is scheduled to recur during the winter solstice, spring equinox, and summer solstice. A portion of the participation fees will support “Il Futuro della Memoria,” a project managed by the Diocese of Otranto dedicated to the digitalization of the Basilica’s frescoes to ensure the preservation of this historical and artistic heritage.
