Galatina introduces new guided cultural tours in Salento

The city of Galatina in Salento is launching new guided tour initiatives to showcase its historical and artistic heritage. These programs aim to offer residents and tourists an immersive experience of the city's authentic identity.

One itinerary, titled “Destinazione Galatina. Dove tutto inizia,” begins at the Clock Tower and traverses the historic center, visiting hidden courtyards and palaces. A central highlight is the Basilica of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, a significant example of Salentine Gothic architecture renowned for its 14th-century frescoes. The route also includes the Chapel of Saint Paul, a site deeply connected to the tradition of tarantism.

Additionally, the “Galatina Classic Tour” provides an exclusive exploration of the city's baroque streets. Led by an art historian, this tour focuses on the Basilica of Saint Catherine d'Alessandria, which houses a fresco cycle considered one of the most important in Southern Italy, second only to the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi in scale.
