Galeb ship menu from 1977 reveals crew's New Year's meals

A photograph of a menu from the legendary ship ‘Galeb’, dated January 1, 1977, has gained social media attention. The document reveals the New Year's Day meals planned for the crew of the vessel, which served as the floating residence for Josip Broz Tito.

The menu details a simple breakfast of tea and Carniolan sausage with mustard, followed by a more substantial lunch consisting of bone soup with star-shaped pasta, Wiener schnitzel, fried potatoes, canned peas, beet salad, and cake. Dinner included liver pâté and fruit compote. While the document provides insight into the daily routine of the crew, it does not confirm the specific meals eaten by Tito himself.

Originally built in Italy in 1938 as a banana transport ship, the ‘Galeb’ was repurposed for the Yugoslav Navy after World War II. It became famous for Tito's diplomatic voyages, including 14 trips to 18 countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa. Notable guests on the ship included Winston Churchill and Emperor Haile Selassie. The ship's final voyage took place in 1979.
