Galeb ship towed to Viktor Lenac shipyard for repairs

The ship Galeb has been towed from the port of Rijeka to the Viktor Lenac shipyard for repairs and a mandatory periodic inspection. The work is expected to last approximately 30 days.

A primary focus of the repairs is to fix damage caused on February 13, 2026, when the vessel Deniz Akay struck the Galeb. The cost for these specific repairs is estimated at 386,866.25 euros, including VAT. These costs will be covered entirely by the insurance of the vessel responsible for the accident, meaning no funds will be drawn from the City of Rijeka's budget.

In addition to accident repairs, the shipyard will perform a mandatory five-year inspection of the floating object's hull, including thickness measurements and anti-corrosion protection renewal. This portion of the work is valued at 470,633.75 euros, including VAT.

Once repairs are complete, the Galeb will return to its permanent berth at the Rijeka breakwater for final safety inspections by the Croatian Register of Shipping. Following these inspections, final preparations for the ship's museum exhibition will continue, with an official opening to the public planned for the end of this year.
