German companies face insolvency across automotive, retail, and real estate sectors
Several German companies are facing insolvency or financial restructuring, impacting employees and consumers.
In the automotive sector, the Berlin-based Autohaus König is seeking a buyer to avoid total collapse. Three interested parties, including AVAG Holding and the Van Mossel Automotive Group, have expressed interest in acquiring the group, which employs approximately 1,200 people across 80 locations. A final decision is expected by November 2.
In the retail sector, the department store chain Galeria has filed for insolvency again. This has left customers with prepaid gift vouchers that are currently not being accepted at 83 remaining branches. Consumer protection groups warn that while vouchers remain legally valid, the likelihood of recovering the full value from the insolvency estate is extremely low.
Additionally, the real estate developer Schultheiß Projektentwicklung AG has filed for insolvency, halting construction projects in the Nuremberg area. This move affects over 150 residential units and puts the jobs of approximately 90 employees and various subcontractors at risk.
