Galicia advances major road upgrades under President Alfonso Rueda

The Galician government announced the final tender for the Rolda Leste of Ourense, a 1.5‑km ring road linking Bemposta to the N‑525. Valued at €12.7 million, the project aims to divert traffic from central Ourense, improve connections to the city’s southern districts, industrial parks and the Rías Baixas motorway, and will be built over 30 months with contracts expected by September.

In a related move, President Alfonso Rueda and regional minister María Martínez Allegue opened a 3.5‑km free‑of‑toll extension of the AG‑59 autovía between Santiago and A Estrada. The section, built with €32.3 million, joins a further 4‑km stretch currently under construction, bringing the total planned length to 14 km that will cut travel time to ten minutes. Rueda said the full project, slated for completion in 2028 with almost €70 million in spending, reflects the Xunta’s commitment to safe, sustainable infrastructure across Galicia.
