Galicia allocates €40 million for pre‑commercial defence and security projects
The regional government of Galicia (Xunta) will invest €40 million to attract new industrial projects in the defence, security and aerospace sectors. The funding will be delivered through a pre‑commercial public procurement process that aims to develop solutions that are not yet on the market and to ensure that the resulting products are manufactured in Galicia. Applicants must form consortia of companies that can deliver dual‑use technologies, ranging from unmanned platforms and space systems to secure communications, advanced sensors and maritime surveillance. The deadline for submitting proposals is 30 September, after which the Xunta expects to award contracts in the first half of the next year. The programme is described by President Alfonso Rueda as “pioneering in Spain”, while industry minister María Jesús Lorenzana emphasised that “knowledge stays in the territory”. The initiative is part of a broader strategy that foresees €621 million in public and private investment and aims to create up to 500 high‑skill jobs by 2030.
