Galicia allocates €60 million to water sanitation and sees 39% rise in foreign investment

The regional government of Galicia is committing roughly €60 million to upgrade water sanitation in the A Mariña area of Lugo. The plan includes a new wastewater treatment plant (EDAR) in Burela costing €8.7 million, slated for tender and construction from 2027, and other projects totalling €35.9 million to improve facilities in Viveiro, Foz and surrounding municipalities.

In the first quarter of the year, Galicia attracted €164.1 million of foreign capital, a 38.9% increase from the same period last year. This positions the region behind Madrid, Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Castile and León and Andalusia, but ahead of Aragon and Murcia. Across Spain, total foreign investment reached €6.566 billion, led by the United States, the United Kingdom and France. Major sectors receiving inflows were telecommunications, consulting and information technology.
