Galicia announces 3.6 million euros in aid for farmers
The President of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, has announced a subsidy program exceeding 3.6 million euros to support farmers and livestock producers in Galicia. This initiative aims to mitigate rising production costs, specifically regarding agricultural diesel and fertilizers. The funding combines 1.6 million euros from the European Commission with 2 million euros provided by the Xunta.
To qualify, applicants must be registered as self-employed in the agricultural sector and derive at least 25% of their income from it. The aid will be distributed via direct contributions per hectare of useful agricultural land through a simplified process, with the goal of providing liquidity before the end of the year. Rueda stated the measure is intended to ensure the stability and profitability of farms to encourage generational renewal in rural areas.
In a separate context regarding regional development, Rueda highlighted Galicia’s role in global challenges, citing its leadership in artificial intelligence regulation and its strategic autonomy through renewable energy and critical materials. He also noted the region's ability to attract major industrial investments, such as the upcoming SAIC automotive factory, which he credited to loyal cooperation with the central government.
