Galicia approves €118 million plan to strengthen special‑needs support

The Xunta of Galicia has approved a new "Plan for the Promotion of Attention to Diversity" worth €118 million to be spent through 2030. The plan, endorsed by the regional government council, will begin implementation in the 2026‑27 school year and aims to improve inclusive education across the region.

It includes the hiring or consolidation of 400 support professionals – 200 new therapeutic pedagogy specialists for secondary schools, 150 positions in primary schools, and 50 additional orientation staff – as well as revisions to regulations that let families choose among ordinary, special, or mixed‑mode schooling. The initiative also foresees the use of the EdugalIA artificial‑intelligence tool to streamline administrative tasks in orientation departments and broader digitalisation of educational procedures.

The plan is presented as part of a longer‑term modernization effort that began in 2023 under an agreement with trade unions, and it positions Galicia as a leading region in Spain for inclusive education.
