Galicia boosts recycling rate to 30% as EU targets approach

The regional government of Galicia reported that its municipal recycling rate rose from 20% to 30% in 2024, a ten‑point gain that moves the region up ten places in the national rankings. The improvement reflects a 50% increase in the efficiency of source‑separation, with the selective‑collection rate climbing from 16% to 24%. Landfill dependence fell to 33%, well below the national average of over 50%, supporting the goal of limiting landfill disposal to 40% by 2025. The figures were presented by Environment and Climate Change Councillor Ángeles Vázquez during a visit to the Mancomunidad del Ribeiro. In related actions, the Xunta allocated €50,000 for heritage restoration in the village of Requeixo, Chandrexa de Queixa.

These results are described as a "significant evolution" in meeting European Union waste‑management objectives set for the region.
