Galicia braces for storm and heat wave as weather pattern shifts
A low‑pressure system moving in from the Atlantic is set to affect Galicia from Monday, bringing typical southwest winds, a front that will bring persistent rain to the Atlantic provinces and stable temperatures. The system will be followed by another low later in the week.
At the same time, a heat wave is pushing inland temperatures to 36‑38 °C, prompting a yellow alert across the region. The warm air combined with cold air aloft raises the risk of dry thunderstorms, hail and strong gusts, especially in the mountainous areas of Ourense and Lugo. Civil protection agencies have heightened fire‑risk monitoring as the combination of high heat and sudden storms threatens forested areas.
