Galicia celebrates summer festivals in A Coruña and Soutomaior

The province of A Coruña opened its annual María Pita celebrations on 1 August with a book fair, a concert by Luz Casal and a series of cultural activities across the comarca, including performances by Mercedes Peón and local bands. Parallel festivities in the nearby towns of Lorbé and Limiñón feature traditional music, food fairs, a maritime procession of the Virgin of Carmen and a beer‑and‑cider festival, with free parking and evening concerts.

In the neighbouring municipality of Soutomaior, a free cultural day on 14 August honored María Vinyals, a 19th‑century Galician writer and early feminist. The program includes a collaborative art workshop, a cheese‑making demonstration, a treasure‑hunt game about Vinyals' life, and a temporary exhibition at the municipal library, organized by the local council and artist Alba Troiteiro.
