Galicia faces water‑shortage prealert as rivers Lérez and Anllóns run low

Regional authorities in Galicia have activated a prealert for moderate water scarcity, urging residents to use water responsibly. The prealert covers the river basins of the Lérez and Anllóns and has been declared in cities such as Vigo, where officials asked the public to limit consumption.

The situation coincides with a surge in private swimming pools across the coastal comarca of Cangas, Moaña and Bueu, which now holds more than 1,200 pools. Analysts note that filling and maintaining these pools requires large water volumes—up to 36 m³ per pool—and could strain supplies as authorities monitor water use during the drought period.
