Galicia expands school meal and material aid funding for families

The municipality of Ferrol announced a provisional list of beneficiaries for 2026‑27 school support, allocating €431,000 in total. €371,000 will fund school‑meal scholarships for children in early, primary and special education, while €60,000 is set aside for school‑material allowances covering students up to secondary level and vocational training. The call received 870 applications for material aid and 705 for meal scholarships, exceeding 1,500 requests, and a correction period will run until 7 July.

Separately, the Galician regional government published a new aid scheme for the 2025‑26 school‑meal season, offering €150 per family to those with per‑capita incomes up to €6,000. The programme, budgeted at almost €3 million, is compatible with other subsidies provided the total does not exceed the service cost. A second tranche for 2026‑27 will introduce €100 assistance for families earning €6,001‑€10,000. Existing price freezes for meals managed by the Xunta remain in place, and the region continues collaborative agreements with 14 councils and 13 disability‑focused associations.
