Galicia faces challenges in university rankings and airport competition

Galicia is facing challenges regarding its redundant infrastructure in the academic and aviation sectors. Recent data from the Shanghai Ranking shows that none of the region's three universities rank among the world's top 500. The University of Santiago de Compostela remains in the 501–600 range, while the University of Vigo has dropped to the 901–1,000 interval. The University of A Coruña does not appear in the top 1,000.

A similar trend is observed in the aviation sector, where Galician airports are losing passengers to Porto Airport in Portugal. This shift is attributed to the private French management of Porto's terminal, which has implemented aggressive marketing strategies, direct international flights, and efficient bus connections, contrasting with the administrative complexities faced by Galician authorities.
