Galicia faces declining purchasing power and rising inflation

Galicia is experiencing significant economic pressure due to rising inflation and declining purchasing power. According to the Adecco Annual Salary Monitor, residents in Galicia saw a 0.4% decrease in purchasing power in 2025, as wage increases failed to keep pace with inflation. The average monthly salary in the region was 1,862 euros, notably lower than the Spanish national average of 2,055 euros.

Inflation in Galicia has been driven largely by soaring fuel costs. In August, inflation in the region rose by 4.8%, the second-highest in Spain, trailing only Cantabria. This spike is attributed to the high impact of energy prices on the region, where dispersed populations necessitate more road travel and logistics. Fuel prices specifically surged by 22.7%, contributing to an overall 18.1% increase in energy products. Projections suggest inflation in Galicia could reach 5.3% in September.
