Galicia faces drought and heatwaves across multiple municipalities

The region of Galicia is facing a challenging season characterized by drought, heatwaves, and high temperatures. More than 230 municipalities across the community are currently under drought alert or pre-alert status.

In A Coruña, the summer has been noted as one of the hottest and driest on record. Since the beginning of July, the city has experienced only six days of rain, with rainfall levels significantly below the seasonal average. Meteorological data suggests the current dry period is comparable to levels seen in 1990.

In Ourense, extreme heat recently saw temperatures in As Burgas reach 42.5 degrees Celsius. However, recent weather shifts have brought overcast skies and light rain, leading to a notable drop in temperatures. Meanwhile, Vigo recorded a monthly high of 39.12 degrees Celsius on July 3, a record for that month since 2010.

Wildfires have also impacted the region, with significant fires in Padrón, Boborás, and Xermadeo O Riós destroying hundreds of hectares, though all were controlled without reported personal injuries.
