Galicia fire brigade and government criticised over delayed wildfire prevention

BNG councilor Maite Ferreiro said the municipal fire brigade in Lugo has not begun work in August, despite a €1,026,250 allocation from the Xunta de Galicia for 2026 and a pending selection process. She blamed the PP‑led regional government for poor planning and for failing to publish work schedules.

PSdeG deputy Carmen Rodríguez Dacosta warned that thousands of hectares remain without preventive actions. Only 70 of the 276 prioritized parishes have completed biomass‑management work, leaving 206 still pending. She called for immediate action, full transparency and a public plan before the high‑risk season, urging the government to meet commitments made after the 2025 fire season.
