Galicia forest firefighters demand daily meal allowance

Forest firefighters from the Galicia Forest Fire Prevention Service (SPIF) have launched a signature collection campaign to demand a daily meal allowance. The initiative involves both permanent staff and civil servants across various bases in Galicia.

The workers are protesting what they describe as deficiencies in the organization, distribution, and quality of food supplies during wildfire campaigns. They highlight that during level 2 fire situations, shifts can extend up to 12 hours, making current provisions inadequate.

The proposed solution is a daily allowance of approximately 17 euros per effective workday. This would result in an annual increase of roughly 1,500 euros for contract workers and 2,000 euros for civil servants. The firefighters noted that other groups, such as forest agents, already receive similar allowances, and they intend to direct their petition to the Director General of Forest Defense and the Regional Minister of Rural Affairs.
