Galicia government advances Camino safety plan and launches special eclipse bus routes

The Xunta de Galicia has opened a 30‑day public consultation on the redesign of the Portuguese and Costa routes of the Camino de Santiago. The project, part of a €40 million road‑safety plan covering more than 150 km of pilgrim routes, will affect 248 properties in 14 municipalities across the provinces of Pontevedra and A Coruña. Affected landowners can submit comments to the regional tourism agency before the final route approvals are made.

In parallel, the regional transport authority has introduced special bus services from Vigo to A Coruña and Ferrol for the total solar eclipse on 12 August. Operated by Monbus and Arriva, the services include additional departures and return trips, with free or discounted fares for youths and seniors using the Galician mobility card. The measures aim to reduce private‑car traffic and improve safety during the astronomical event.
