Galicia government allocates €2.5 million for quake‑hit Galicians in Venezuela

The Xunta de Galicia announced a total of €2.5 million in extra assistance for Galician residents in Venezuela after the June 24 earthquakes damaged many homes. A new extraordinary aid line of €500,000 will cover expenses related to the loss of habitability, with applications open from 6 August 2024 until 1 December 2026 via the Xunta’s electronic portal or through Galician brotherhoods in Caracas, Valencia, Maracaibo, Puerto la Cruz and other cities.

President Alfonso Rueda said the regional government has maintained “intense contact” with the Galician community in Venezuela and that the aid is provided on a non‑competitive basis for humanitarian reasons. The Xunta also accelerated individual social payments that this year already benefit more than 1,200 Galicians, amounting to over €1.3 million for basic needs and health care.
