Galicia government backs airport funding, bike paths and Camino projects
Mayor Abel Caballero of Vigo approved a motion that requires the city council, the provincial Diputación and the Xunta de Galicia each to fund one third of new airline routes from Vigo's Peinador airport, after the PP and BNG parties voted against the proposal.
The regional government gave provisional approval to two mixed‑use cycle‑pedestrian routes on the PO‑254 road in Ponteareas and the PO‑262 road in Mondariz, with an estimated budget of about €1.9 million. The design calls for a 2.02‑metre wide concrete track elevated 10 cm above the existing road.
The Xunta also authorized a contribution of more than €1.12 million to a new agreement aimed at improving the Camino Francés and supporting the Xacobeo 2027 program, involving eleven municipalities. In the same session, the O Seixidal ethnographic centre in As Somozas was added to Galicia's museum network, bringing the total to 100 cultural sites.
