Galicia health service spends €1.4 million on Ferrol microbiology lab and €249 k on A Coruña radiology
The Servizo Galego de Saúde (Galician Health Service) will invest €1.4 million to supply consumables, lease and maintain new equipment for the microbiology laboratory at the Complexo Hospitalario Universitario de Ferrol. The 36‑month contract, with a possible 24‑month extension, will introduce automated seeding, mass‑spectrometry bacterial identification, updated Gram‑staining materials and automated antibiotic‑sensitivity testing, allowing technicians to focus on other tasks and increasing test capacity of 7,000‑8,000 samples per month.
Separately, the Consellería de Sanidade awarded Siemens Healthcare €249 260 for a digital robotic radiology suite in the emergency department of Hospital Universitario de A Coruña. The equipment includes an X‑ray generator, collimator, telescopic tube, examination table, wall‑mounted bucky and digital detector, with installation slated for one month. Both projects aim to improve diagnostic precision, efficiency and ergonomics for healthcare staff.
