Galicia initiates river cleanup and trail expansion projects

The regional government of Galicia has begun a four‑week river‑conservation operation on the Magalofes River and Foxas stream in the municipality of Fene. Using chainsaws, brush cutters and a mini‑dumper, crews are removing fallen trees and accumulated organic material to improve water flow and reduce flood risk in areas classified as high flood‑danger zones. Officials said the work will leave “the river stretch in better condition for water drainage and will also help conserve the river ecosystem.”

In parallel, the council of Mos and the Xunta are allocating €273,000 to extend the Louro River walking trail to five kilometres, linking it to the A Veigadaña business park. The project, funded 55 % by the regional government and 45 % by the municipality, aims to enhance public access, promote tourism and improve residents’ quality of life. The extension follows previous investments in Galician river‑side infrastructure totalling €1 million this year.
