Galicia Keeps Water‑Scarcity Pre‑Alert for 32 Municipalities

The Xunta of Galicia has maintained a pre‑alert for moderate water scarcity affecting the Lérez river basin in Pontevedra province and the Anllóns river and Costa da Coruña up to Arteixo, with equivalent measures in the Baiona subsystem. The decision was taken by the Technical Office of Drought, chaired by Augas de Galicia director Roi Fernández, and included officials from civil protection, MeteoGalicia and the regional health and rural ministries.

The pre‑alert covers 32 municipalities, including Beariz, Barro, Bueu, Cangas, Pontevedra and Sanxenxo, among others. Reservoirs in the Galicia‑Costa basin are at 83.09% of capacity, about 10.7% lower than the previous year. The status requires intensive monitoring of weather, river levels and reservoir storage, heightened public awareness, and daily flow reports from the affected towns, with Augas de Galicia intensifying control of water‑supply systems.
