Galicia launches €805 million biotech strategy and new digital pact to boost innovation

The regional government of Galicia approved the Biotechnology Strategy 2026‑2030 with a budget of €805 million, a 20 % increase over the previous plan. The strategy aims to expand research and development, support biotech startups, improve technology transfer, enhance specialised training and attract private and international investment to diversify the regional economy.

In a parallel move, the Xunta signed the Digital Pact 2026 with 21 ICT companies and clusters, replacing the 2013 agreement. The pact seeks to narrow the digital divide, accelerate citizen tech training, create business opportunities, and ensure a secure, inclusive digital environment. It also supports the rollout of innovative technologies such as AI factories, quantum computing resources and applications in public services, fire‑fighting and health monitoring.
