Galicia launches measles surveillance after imported case in 40‑year‑old adult

The Galician Health Department (Consellería de Sanidade) activated the regional measles surveillance protocol on 23 July after a suspected case in a 40‑year‑old man who had recently travelled abroad. The case was confirmed by the National Microbiology Centre on 28 July; the patient is in good condition and shows a mild clinical picture.

Contact tracing has been carried out, no secondary cases have been identified and the epidemiological investigation continues. Authorities stress that the risk to the general population is very low, citing vaccination coverage above 95 % in Galicia, which they say provides strong protection against measles transmission.
