Galicia leads Spain in early childhood education enrollment
Galicia has maintained its position as the leader in early childhood education enrollment for children aged 0 to 3 for the fourth consecutive academic year. According to data from the Spanish Ministry of Education, the region's enrollment rate stands at approximately 63.9% to 64%, which is nearly 14 percentage points above the national average.
Galicia is currently the only Spanish autonomous community with an enrollment rate exceeding 60% for this age group. This figure surpasses the European Union's 2030 target of 45% by nearly 20 points.
The regional government, the Xunta, attributes this success to its policy of providing free education in infant schools, covering public, private, and social initiative centers. The program involves an investment of 68 million euros from regional funds and benefits more than 32,000 families. Since the implementation of this subsidy system, enrollment in the region has increased by 50%, rising from 42.6% to its current levels.
