Galicia maintains water scarcity alerts for dozens of municipalities
The Xunta de Galicia has decided to maintain water scarcity alerts across several municipalities in the Galicia Costa demarcation. Currently, 32 municipalities remain under alert status, while 75 have been placed under pre-alert.
Technical experts from the Oficina Técnica da Seca noted that while recent rainfall in late August made the month appear humid compared to historical averages, it failed to significantly replenish water reserves or river flows. The Lérez river system, for instance, remains below 0.9 cubic meters per second.
In municipalities under alert, authorities may implement restrictions such as prohibiting the filling of swimming pools, watering gardens, or cleaning streets with water, and may apply temporary water cuts. Short-term forecasts suggest continued dry weather and rising temperatures, offering little immediate relief to the drought conditions.
