Galicia moves forward with public housing project and defence land auction

The regional government of Galicia approved the delimitation of the Saiñas area in Cangas for a Project of Autonomic Interest that will allow the rapid development of 300 public‑housing units on a 66,300‑square‑metre site. The plan, published in the official gazette, outlines the boundaries of the zone and indicates that the area will be transformed for residential use, although owners of the land have not yet been consulted.

Separately, Spain's Ministry of Defence announced a public auction of a 20,010‑square‑metre parcel in the former Agrela military car park in A Coruña. The land, valued at roughly €28 million, will be split with the city council under a 2009 agreement, with part of it earmarked for future urban‑bus parking. The auction will proceed once the replanning project is approved, aiming to generate revenue for the government.

Both actions reflect Galicia's broader efforts to repurpose existing land for housing and commercial development.
