Galicia municipalities set 2027 local holidays amid political dispute
The council of Mos approved two local holidays for 2027. The Festa da Rosa, traditionally held on 13 June, will be observed on Monday 14 June, and the patron saint day of San Mamede on 7 August will be moved to Monday 9 August. The decision was passed by a majority and will be forwarded to the Xunta de Galicia for official inclusion.
In Cambados, council members could not reach an agreement on the 2027 holiday calendar. A proposal to shift traditional patron saint days to the Mondays after Easter and Carnival was rejected, with the governing coalition and opposition parties clashing over the issue. The debate involved the PP, PSOE, Somos, and BNG, and highlighted accusations of political maneuvering and concerns about costs estimated at €2,000‑€3,000. The matter will be revisited in a future session before the 15 September deadline.
