Galicia-Portugal Camino de San Rosendo and Burgos Floral Routes Boost Sustainable Tourism in Iberia

The cross‑border Camino de San Rosendo, a lesser‑known branch of the Camino de Santiago linking Galicia and Portugal, was highlighted at the II International Tourism Cooperation Workshop of ASICOTUR. Participants presented plans for a trans‑border tourism observatory, AI‑driven visitor‑satisfaction tools, and five sensory routes that combine heritage, landscape and technology to foster sustainable, inclusive development in the border region.

In Spain’s Burgos province, the "Caminos en flor" initiative, promoted by the Sociedad para el Desarrollo de la Provincia de Burgos (Sodebur) under the EU AgroTour SUDOE programme, linked five floral routes with local heritage sites. The project leaders reported increased visitor numbers, QR‑code itineraries and collaborations with municipalities, aiming to showcase natural and cultural assets such as lavender fields, historic monasteries and Roman ruins while supporting rural tourism.

Both projects illustrate regional efforts to integrate nature, culture and technology to create sustainable tourism models that generate economic opportunities for local communities.
