Galicia prepares for seasonal daylight decrease and winter time change
Galicia is entering a period of rapidly decreasing daylight as autumn progresses. The transition to winter time is scheduled for the early hours of Sunday, October 25, 2026, when clocks will be set back one hour. This change, officially recorded in the State Official Gazette (BOE), will result in earlier sunrises and sunsets.
In Ourense, the sunrise on October 25 is expected around 07:56, with sunset at 18:34. The shortest period of daylight will occur in December during the winter solstice. While astronomical daylight hours decrease due to the Earth's axial tilt, actual sunshine hours are also influenced by meteorology; for instance, certain regions in Galicia may experience higher percentages of sunny hours during autumn despite shorter days compared to summer.
